Independent Industrial Electric Motor Testing Services

Looking for one of the world's most advanced, independent electric motor test facilities? MENZEL provides comprehensive motor load testing, routine checks, type tests, and complete drive system verifications for all motor brands and manufacturers worldwide.

Located at our modern production facilities in Hennigsdorf near Berlin, Germany, the MENZEL load test field operates to the highest standards of international electrical engineering. Our test field handles high-voltage and low-voltage electric motors up to 13.8 kV and electrical power outputs up to 2,300 kVA.

Equipped with a 6 kV frequency converter, variable rotary converters for voltages from 3 kV to 13.8 kV, and heavy-duty load resistors, we test three-phase asynchronous squirrel cage motors, slip ring motors, synchronous machines, DC motors, transformers, and frequency converters. We even specialize in complex vertical motor testing under realistic thrust load conditions.

Routine Testing for Asynchronous Motors

Standard quality verification for every new or overhauled industrial electric motor:

  • Visual inspection and mechanical checking
  • Stator winding DC resistance measurement at ambient temperature
  • Insulation resistance measurement (Winding and accessory sensors)
  • High-voltage dielectric withstand check on stator winding
  • Verification of phase sequence and rotational direction
  • No-load test at rated voltage and frequency
  • Short-circuit impedance test at reduced voltage
  • Bearing temperature rise check during continuous operation
  • Vibration spectrum analysis (FFT vibration measurement)
  • Functional verification of space heaters, RTDs, and sensors

Type Testing & Full-Load Heat Run Tests

Comprehensive performance validation under full thermal and electrical stress:

  • Full thermal heat run under rated continuous load
  • Load characteristic curves (25%, 50%, 75%, 100%, and 125% load points)
  • Efficiency determination and power factor calculation
  • Measurement of short-circuit characteristic & current curve
  • Measurement of no-load current vs. voltage characteristic
  • Determination of Polarization Index (PI) and dielectric absorption
  • No-load acoustic noise level spectral measurement
  • Transient voltage ripple measurement

Vertical Motor Load Testing

Testing vertical motors (IM V1, IM V10, IM 311) under realistic axial thrust loading conditions using our dedicated vertical angular gearboxes. Eliminates installation risk before site delivery.

Transformer-Converter-Motor String Tests

Full drive system testing ("Stringtest"). We simulate real operational interactions between the supply transformer, frequency converter, and electric motor to verify complete drive line harmony.

Third-Party Motor Testing

Independent, manufacturer-neutral testing for third-party motor brands. Fast scheduling and unbiased certified test protocol documentation accepted by global insurance and inspection agencies.
